THE All India ING Vysya Bank Employees' Union (AIIVBEU) and the All India Vysya Bank Officers' Association (AIVBOA) have served notice to go on a day's strike on December 26 to achieve their demands.

Their main demands are recruitment of award staff and officers on permanent basis, compassionate appointments and uniform incentive to officers.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting here on Sunday evening, the AIIVBEU General Secretary, Mr K. J. Ramakrishna Reddy, said that after the takeover of the bank, 2,000 of the 6,200 employees had left. He alleged that they were under pressure to shift to contract employment or to quit.

He condemned the management for taking contract staff on what he called hire-and-fire basis and for offering them no benefits. Stating that there were 600 contract staff at various levels, he demanded that their services be regularised. According to the agreements entered into, family members of the deceased employees should be given compassionate appointments within three months. However, he alleged that though 50 employees had died during the past six years, no appointment had been made.
