Back Banks and customer service

This refers to the statement made by Chairman of Bank of Baroda, quoted under in the "Voices" column (Business Line, November 27): While the new technology in the PSU banks is welcome, it is not customer-friendly. Customers have been facing hassles even in routine services. So much so that the purpose of customer friendliness, which spurred the idea in the first place is defeated.

There has really been no review of the standard of customer service in the banks for several years now. It is time that banks undertook a detailed survey of customer service at their branches. The outcome will enable them to revisit their current priorities and balance them appropriately with greater focus on service to customers.
