Nominations filed for first phase of polls

Bangalore: Political activity was at its crescendo in one half of the State on Wednesday with the deadline for the filing of nomination papers for the first phase of elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats to be held on December 19 ending in the evening in 14 districts.

The district and taluk headquarters witnessed processions being taken out by the contestants and also much elation over securing the nomination of the major political parties and also acrimony over non-selection.

The 14 districts are Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga, Hassan, Uttara Kannada, Gadag, Dharwad, Chikmagalur, Belgaum, Haveri, Mysore and Mandya.
