BANGALORE: Posing as policemen, two youths waylaid a restaurant employee and robbed him of a mobile phone and cash in Fraser Town police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday. The police said that around 12.30 a.m. Naveen, an employee of a restaurant in Garuda Mall, was returning on his bicycle. Two youths stopped him on Hutchins Road and told him that they were policemen. On the pretext of frisking him, they robbed him of the mobile phone and Rs. 50 in cash, the police said.
Chain snatched
A youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 from a woman in Malleswaram police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said that around 8 p.m. the youth snatched the chain from Manjula while she was walking on Sampige Road. On a complaint by Manjula, a resident of Sriramapuram, Malleswaram police have registered a case.
Woman murdered
Following a drunken brawl, a man allegedly murdered his wife in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Tuesday night. The police gave the name of the dead as Lakshmi (45), a rag picker and a resident of Chandragiri Layout. On Tuesday night, Lakshmi's husband, Muniyappa (55) allegedly hit her on the head with a log, injuring her seriously. On Wednesday morning, Lakshmi was found dead in her house, the police said. The Kumaraswamy Layout police have registered a case.
Mobile phones recovered
The City Market police on Monday arrested Dharma (19) of Bhadravahi in Shimoga district on charges of theft and recovered from him 49 mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 2 lakhs.
Vehicles recovered
The RMC Yard police have arrested Shahabbas (19) of Shivijinagar on charges of theft and recovered from him a car, a scooter, two motorcycles and four mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 1.70 lakhs. The accused was involved in four theft cases, the police said.
Murder accused arrested
The Ramamurthynagar police have arrested Jeevan alias Raja, a native of Kolkota, on the charge of murdering Vishnu (33), a carpenter and a resident of Kasturinagar here. The police said that on November 25, Jeevan hit Vishnu on the head with a club, killing him instantaneously. The police said Vishnu had an affair with Jeevan's wife and this had led to the murder.
Leather bags seized
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Tuesday arrested M. Abdul Basha (35) of Gurappanapalaya and seized leather bags estimated at Rs. 2.10 lakhs.
