Back Natco launches drug for blood cancer

NATCO Pharma Ltd has announced the launch of its drug for multiple myeloma (a form of blood cancer) under the brand `Alphalan' (Melphalan) in 2 mg and 5 mg tablet forms.

In a press release here on Thursday, the company said the launch of Alphalan would mark the introduction of the niche product to India. The company said Alphalan is the only Indian product available in the market for the treatment of multiple myeloma. According to the company, multiple myeloma affects the plasma cell, which is an important part of the immune system. In the case of persons affected with this disease, the malignant plasma cells accumulate and damage the bone marrow in the spine, pelvis, rib cage and the skull. Rated as the second most prevalent form of blood cancer, multiple myeloma ( is responsible for two per cent of all cancer deaths, the company said.
