Back VSP launches sewage recycling system

AN ultra filtration system-based sewage recycling system, the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, was inaugurated by the Chairman and Managing Director of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Mr Y. Sivasagara Rao.

He said the system would result in a saving of 1 mgd (million gallons per day) of water, amounting to Rs 1.3 crore per annum in monetary terms.

"Apart from good savings to VSP, the project will contribute significantly to the improvement of the environs and result in conservation of precious natural resources," he said.

He sought the support of the employees and trade unions in completing the expansion, being taken up at a cost of more than Rs 8,000 crore, on time.

Mr K. Srirama Murthy, the environmental engineer, Regional Office of AP Pollution Control Board, complimented VSP for setting up the plant.

The project, costing Rs 5 crore, is meant for treating sewage through tertiary clarifier, multi-grade filters and ultra filtration with two-point chlorination.

The unit was supplied by Vantech Wabag Ltd, Chennai, on turnkey basis.

Mr K.K Rao, Director (Operations) and Mr P.K Mishra, Executive Director (Works) spoke on the occasion.
