Vibrant colours

The swirling colours of Rajasthan, its ancient shapes, and the distinctive skills of its craftspersons meld with contemporary lifestyle to present a `Home Art' exhibition is on at Central Cottage Industries Emporium, Temple Towers, Nandanam.

Rajasthani craft, carved and sculpted to perfection and painted in vibrant colours to create a series of furniture and lifestyle products, which combine rustic and royal ambience is available.

Wooden furniture in unusual oval configurations with bold brass fixings and mother of and pearl borders is a scene-stealer.

Corner tables, centre tables and wine cabinets also carry this innovative theme.

Minimal carving has been combined with a touch of colour and brass and copper facings in rustic looking three-piece drawing room sets.

Painstakingly sculpted edgings on furniture items is another craft speciality on foldable coffee tables, wine cabinets, book and shoe racks. Jewel boxes painted in mellow vegetable colours and sets of elephants and birds intricately worked in mother of pearl and wood are added attractions.

Well crafted Pichwai paintings and Rajput minature reproductions in silk have been framed in wooden jharokhas.

Also on display are zari-encrusted saris, embroidered and patch worked Rajasthani hangings and bedspreads. The exhibition is on till December 24.
