Back Project Siksha
This is with reference to the article, "Project Siksha" (Business Line, December 19): The author has rightly highlighted the challenges faced by aided schools in Tamil Nadu that have played a significant role in providing quality education free of cost to the under-privileged. For instance, vacancies for specialist teachers in charge of physical education, music, and arts are very often not filled up in time in these schools. The Education Department is only killing a golden goose by not adequately supporting such institutions. Promises by the government of free education have been thrown to the winds. No wonder then that some school managements are starting parallel fee-levying or self-financing so as to escape interference by the government. S. S. Rajagopalan Chennai
