Two persons waylaid, robbed in city

Veterinary clinic employee waylaid, robbed on Mysore Road flyover

BANGALORE: Armed men waylaid two persons and robbed them of cash and mobile phones in separate incidents reported from City Market and Adugodi police station limits in the city on Sunday night.

The police said that around 7.45 p.m., four men, who arrived in an autorickshaw, stopped Mallikarjuna, an employee of veterinary clinic, on Mysore Road flyover, off Victoria Hospital. They robbed him of Rs. 2,000 in cash and a mobile phone at knifepoint. Mallikarjuna, who was on night shift, was on his way to work, the police said.

On a complaint by Mallikarjuna, a resident of Bapujinagar, the City Market police have registered a case.

In another incident, around 11.30 p.m., three men threatened Devadutta, a private company employee, with knives and robbed him of Rs. 100 in cash and a mobile phone. The incident occurred near Devadutta's house in Aiyappa Garden in Adugodi. The Adugodi police have registered a case.

Girl raped

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a married man in Nandagudi police station limits in Hoskote taluk of Bangalore Rural district on Sunday afternoon.

The police said that around 2.30 p.m., Chennappa (23) asked the 11-year-old girl to accompany him to a nearby forest to collect firewood. When the girl accompanied him, Chennappa raped her at the forest, the police said. After returning home around 5 p.m., the girl told her father about the incident. On a complaint by her father, the Nandagudi police have arrested Chennappa.

Houses burgled

Burglars struck at the house of a businessman in Girinagar Police Station limits on Sunday night and made away with gold and silver jewellery, all estimated at Rs. 1 lakh. The police said the incident took place at Krishna Murthy's house in Dattatreyanagar in Hosakerehalli when he had been to Palamaner in Andhra Pradesh. The Girinagar police have registered a case. Thieves broke into two adjoining houses in Kengeri Satellite Town on Sunday night and took away jewellery estimated at Rs. 45,000.

The police said the thieves stole jewellery estimated at Rs. 20,000 from the house of Neelarani, a bank employee, and ornaments estimated at Rs. 25,000 from the house of Sunil Kumar, an electrical contractor.
