Court disallows toilet near statue

Municipal Commissioner asked to submit a comprehensive plan

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Tuesday restrained the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) from constructing public toilets adjacent to the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandrabose near the Secunderabad railway station.

The Bench, comprising Chief Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice R. Subhash Reddy, was dealing with a writ petition filed by Rajender.

The petitioner complained that toilets were being constructed near the statue and that the whole traffic island would turn into public urinal.

Negligence alleged

The Bench had asked Government pleaders -- Niraja and Rekha Prasad -- to visit the site and submit a report. Accordingly, the Government pleaders had submitted a comprehensive report.

They pointed out how the authorities had neglected this part and recommended for beautification of the traffic island, removal of high walls and making appropriate changes in the vicinity, etc. They suggested that no public urinals be constructed the statue.

The Bench directed the Municipal Commissioner to submit a comprehensive plan keeping in view the report submitted to the court.
