BANGALORE: Alumni of Bangalore Medical College (BMC) will gift the institution a digital library costing around Rs. 3 crores on the occasion of its golden jubilee, Principal T. Rajeshwari has said.

She told presspersons here on Sunday that the BMC, established in 1955, will complete 50 years of service this year. Nearly 7,000 former students of the college have come forward to gift the digital library.

Dr. Rajeshwari said the library is designed to be a repository of knowledge. It will be a vehicle with worldwide high-speed connectivity. It will enable users to harness available information to become world-class professionals, she said.

Nearly 60 students can sit together at a time, access information, download and transmit data and use a database for storing raw data, she said.

The library will enable BMC to link with any institution with telemedicine facility and transmit their classes to outside institutions or receive a class from that institution. Doctors from BMC can also provide tele-consultations to people in remote areas. Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh will dedicate the library on December 28.
