Huge donation for TTD scheme

TIRUMALA : A devotee on Thursday donated Rs.21 lakhs towards the TTDs Pranadana scheme. A demand draft to this effect was handed over to TTD Special Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy by S. Award for IOE centre

HYDERABAD: The State unit of the Institution of Engineers (India) has received the best State centre award for all-round performance in 2004-05. Chandra Mohan, chairman of the centre, received a memento, a certificate and a cheque for Rs.50,000 from B.J.Vasoya, president of the Institution of Engineers (India) during the recent 86th annual general body meeting at Kolkata. Tatkal scheme for Inter exam fee

HYDERABAD: Intermediate students who have failed to submit their examination fee so far can do so under the Tatkal Scheme that will be open from December 30 to January 7, 2006. Candidates have to pay a special fee of Rs. 500 in addition to the prescribed fee. Staff Reporter

CPI(M) seeks extension of GO

HYDERABAD: The CPI(M) State committee, in a statement, has urged Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao to extend the deadline by six months for regularisation of houses built in Government lands in urban areas prior to March 1990.

Security for lawyers

MAHABUBNAGAR: Bar Association vice-president Ananth Narsihma Reddy has said that the Bar Council will provide security for lawyers in the State. Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said that the bill was introduced in Assembly on December 13 and the House approved of it. - Special Correspondent

Sarpanches asked not to pay power bills

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Panchayati Raj Chamber has charged AP Transco with fleecing gram panchayats and asked sarpanches not to pay power bills pending up to August 31, 2005.

TIRUPATI: An uneasy calm prevails in Chittoot after the district headquarters town, 65 km from here, witnessed on Wednesday two major incidents involving rival Congress and the TDP groups. Barely 15 hours after the Chittoor Municipal Vice-Chairman, C. Purushothama Reddy survived a bomb attack in front of his residence, a Telugu Desam party Councillor, Katari Mohan was grievously injured when some unknown assailants attacked him with iron rods around at 10.30 p.m. - Special Correspondent

Old age pension sanctioned

KADAPA: The Government sanctioned Rs. 1.47 crores towards old age pensions for 73,444 beneficiaries in Kadapa district Collector G. Ashok Kumar said on Thursday.

The beneficiaries, including 2,529 handloom weavers, will be disbursed monthly pension of Rs. 100 for November and December, he said in a statement. - Staff Reporter

Implementation of Telugu sought

CHITTOOR: Andhra Pradesh Official Language Committee Chairman A.B.K. Prasad has urged officers to take the responsibility of implementing Telugu in correspondence from the Secretariat to the mandal level.

Speaking at the Telugu Vikas celebrations here on Thursday

Mr. Prasad appealed to the people to give importance to Telugu without showing undue affection towards English language.

Special grade secretary in ACB net

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers on Wednesday arrested the Special Grade Secretary of Gudur Agricultural Marketing Committee in Nellore, S.V. Srinivasan, allegedly for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The assets unearthed during simultaneous searches at Gudur and Chittoor were valued over Rs. 48 lakhs, a press release said. He would be produced before the Special Judge for ACB Cases in Nellore.

AISF seeks CI's suspension

HYDERABAD: The All-India Students' Federation (AISF) has condemned the lathicharge by the police in Anantapur town on students who were protesting against the Government's decision to release only Rs. 34 crores, of Rs. 96 crores required for clearing pending scholarships.

K. Srujan Kumar, president, and P. Muralidhar, general secretary, alleged in a statement issued here on Thursday that the police "indiscriminately" lathicharged the students. They demanded suspension of Ananapur One Town CI Parameswara Reddy.
