No reward will be given without approval of Special Commissioner

NEW DELHI: Police personnel working at Police Headquarters here at ITO are finding it difficult to get their reward proposals cleared these days.

Noting that the reward system seems to have gone overboard, the headquarters division is learnt to have intimated all officers concerned about certain directions issued by the Special Commissioner of Police (Administration).

A circular issued recently informed all departments that have their offices at the Headquarters about the decision arrived at after evaluation of details of rewards sanctioned to their staff this October. The order states that no reward will be given to any employee at the Headquarters without prior approval of the Special Commissioner of Police (Administration) till a fresh rewards policy is worked out. Not only this, the officers concerned have been told that even if a reward has been sanctioned, it should not be paid and rather be referred to the Special Commissioner for proper re-evaluation. Pointing out that the intention behind these directives was not at all to stop the practice of giving rewards in cases where work was exemplary nature, the circular said it had been noticed that officers were not properly adhering to the rules before putting up proposals for rewards.
