Sports meet brings the best in children

BANGALORE: St. Mary's Public School celebrated the sports meet of its junior and senior school recently.

The junior sports meet was a festive and ceremonial affair. The playground was replete with colourful flags, tents and children in multi-coloured attire. It was exhilarating to see the tiny tots do the drills in unison. Truly, drills and innovative games for children were the highlights of the event.

The display of skills by children impressed Jacob Joseph, Parish Priest of St. Mary's Jacobite Orthodox Cathedral, the chief guest of the day. Not to mention, the parents of the children were also equally happy.

At the senior sports' meet held in Mount Carmel Stadium, Arjuna Award winner Elvera Britto was the chief guest.

She stressed the importance of striking a balance between work and play.

Annual day

Al-Ameen Primary and High School, Hosur Road, celebrated its annual day recently. Nisar Ahmed, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, and Vanditha Sharma, Director, Education Development Centre, were the chief guests.

The highlight of the evening was a light-and-sound programme based on the "Adventures of Hatim Tai."

It was enacted by over 500 children of the school, who recreated this famous Arabian tale with gusto. At the end of the show, many people went back with fond memories of the land of the dates and the palms.

The play was directed and choreographed by Jayathirtha and his group.

Nrityagan

Auden Public School, Girinagar, conducted its annual talent fest "Nrityagan" recently.

The event is a platform for students to display their talents. Students from the lower kindergarten to Standard IV participated in it. "Bharat Darshan" was the theme of this year's event.

Pankaja Ravishankar, Special Police Officer attached to Jayanagar Police Station, was the chief guest at the festival. She told students to give importance to extra-curricular activities to develop their personality. Cultural activities are as important as academics, she noted. She also enacted a scene from the epic Mahabharata and enthralled the audience. Students of Standard X presented a foot-tapping dance.

Cultural programmes

Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE), J.P. Nagar, celebrated its annual day recently. S. Narasaraju, founder-chairman of The Children's Education Society, was the chief guest at the cultural programme.

The programme commenced with an invocation followed by a fusion dance performance drawing heavily from Indian classical traditions and rock music. The performance resonated among the audience not without reason.

Nursery students performed a dance depicting unity in diversity while senior school students presented a skit on "Perfection in life." The school band entertained the audience with a song from "Slow Patrol."

Inter-school festival

Florence Public High School, R.T. Nagar, has won several prizes in the Inter-School Deccan Herald Fest, besides the Overall Rolling Trophy. The students of the school came first in "Tell a Story" competition, winning gift vouchers worth Rs. 1,000; second prize in the face painting competition; first in the drawing competition and second and third prizes in the quiz competition. Niranjini C., Ankita S.R., Chakravarthy, S. Vinod Kumar, K. Kashyap, Sajidulla Shariff, Habib Mohammed Yousuf Quarishi, Anoop H.A., Sushan P. Kottari and V. Sampath Kumar were some of the students who did the school proud.
