Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in parts of Bharati Salai, Ramasamy Garden, Perumal Mudali Street, Thalaiyan Street, Mir Bakshi Ali Street and Md. Hussain Street in Royapettah on Thursday for maintenance work.

Charitable trust opens new office

Vizhudugal, a registered public charitable trust, which aims at providing better education, better mental health and other services related to mental disorders, has opened an office at Kolathur. Workshop on

goal setting

A workshop on `getting things in life by setting goals in the right direction' is being organised by the Happiness Foundation next Tuesday between 9.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Springfield Matriculation School on the 49th Street, Ninth Avenue, K.K. Nagar. The workshop will deal with the importance of setting accurate and meaningful goals. The course fee is Rs. 300; more details can be had by calling 9884023263.

Children's parliament

The Society for Education and Action (SEA) inaugurated a children's parliament attended by around 1000 children from 25 villages at Mamallapuram on December 27 at an event that also paid homage to the tsunami victims. A book on rights of children was released, and cultural programmes performed by the children.

AIDS awareness

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) at the Chandraprabhu Jain College, Minjur, was inaugurated last month at an event presided over by the M.S. Thandapani, field officer, RRC of Thiruvallur district. A speech on AIDS awareness and statistical information regarding the young victims of the disease were presented.

Flood relief

The Easwari Engineering College, Valliammal Engineering College and the chairman of the SRM group of institutions contributed Rs. 5.74 lakh toward the Anna University Flood Relief Fund. The amount included a day's salary of the employees of both colleges.

Saiva Siddhantam in South Africa

The Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women, Madhanangkuppam, organised a special meeting with Morgan Yegambaram, an Indian settled in Durban, South Africa.

He spoke about Indian cultural traditions in South Africa. He said Saiva Siddhantam is held in high esteem by the Tamils there.

Skills development training

The Social Welfare Centre for Weaker Section organised a three-day training programme on skills development training for the students of the Corporation High School, Erukkenchery, to motivate them to be confident and determined.
