Palar reservoir: Vasan writes to Manmohan, Sonia

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi's immediate intervention in stalling the Andhra Pradesh Government's move to construct a reservoir across the Palar.

In a statement here on Saturday, Mr. Vasan said Andhra Pradesh's plan to construct the project would severely affect the rights of agriculturists in northern Tamil Nadu and would pave the way for making Palar into a desert.

He said he had written detailed letters to Mr. Singh and Ms. Gandhi stressing the need for preventing the Andhra Pradesh Government from going ahead with the proposed project.
