Back Fair demand at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 8 A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 9,22,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC dust were lower by Rs 2-3. Orthodox dust grades were steady. As per the figures made available with Forbes, Ewart and Figgis (Pvt) Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 60-70, medium CTC realised Rs 48-56 and below medium were quoted Rs 35-42. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices at Rs 110. Medium BOPD realised Rs 32-35 and secondaries were quoted at Rs 22-27. The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,51,000 kg. Orthodox Brokens and Fannings witnessed less demand and tended to ease. Whole leaf grades were steady to dearer. High priced CTCs were easier by Re 1-2. Exporters to Iraq were not active in the auction. CIS exporters operated on whole leaf grades. CTCs witnessed better demand from upcountry buyers. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 52-63; medium Orthodox realised Rs 40-48. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 43-48 and medium CTC leaf realised Rs 40-43. In the dust category, Koadanaad Cl. BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 110, followed by Pasuparai FD by Rs 82.
