Back CDAC plans computing grid Our Bureau
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr S. Ramakrishnan, Director-General of CDAC, said the grid would help in decision-making in fields such as disaster management and bioinformatics. Besides, providing a high-speed communication backbone, the system would help aggregate data gathered from geographically distributed grid. Premier institutes such as IITs, space application centres and scientific institutes would be part of the grid. The grid would have a portal wherein the end-user could post a job (query, data), which, in turn, would be directed to relevant centres for computing and analysing. On language tools, he said the organisation would release tools in Punjabi, Urdu, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya by the end of the financial year. The remaining official languages would be completed in the next financial year. Text to speech software too would be ready in five languages, including `Indian English'.
