Back Productive year for VSP

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant achieved production of 4.12 million tonnes of hot metal, 3.56 million tonnes of liquid steel, 3.21 million tonnes of saleable steel, 3.36 million tonnes of cast blooms, 2.04 million tonnes of billets and 1.03 million tonnes of wire rods during the calendar year 2005, according to a press release issued by the plant.

The plant recorded a sales turnover of Rs 734 crore in December 2005, and the cumulative turnover during April-December was Rs 5,581 crore, a rise of 3 per cent over that of the corresponding period last year. It included exports of Rs 314 crore. During the year, the plant's plan to double capacity from 3 million tonnes to 6.3 million tonnes was approved by the Union Cabinet. The expansion will cost the plant Rs 8,692 crore. Currently, the plant is operating at 120 per cent of its rated capacity.
