A grower irrigating a cabbage field near Udhagamandalam in Tamil Nadu. Advent of hybrid technology has given an impetus to vegetable production in the country. Availability of high temperature-resistant cabbage varieties has pushed up productivity 1.41 times. Tamil Nadu has the highest productivity level of 25.5 tonnes a hectare, followed by Kerala at 22.2 tonnes. Most of the cabbage produced in Tamil Nadu is sent to Kerala to meet increasing demand.
