CPI for house sites to displaced poor

KADAPA: Kadapa Municipal Corporation officials should allot alternative house sites to families to be displaced by widening and beautification of Buggavanka stream course, CPI Town Secretary G. Chandra demanded on Thursday.

He decried issue of notices asking house-owners who encroached upon Buggavanka stream poramboke land to voluntarily demolish their houses within a fortnight. - Staff Reporter

Two traders killed in road accident

KADAPA: Two traders of Tirupati, riding a motorcycle, died instantly when the vehicle skidded near Nagavaram in Chitvel mandal on Wednesday night.

Bujji Babu and Ramana of Jeevakona in Tirupati were returning from their relatives' house at Chitvel when the accident occurred. Railway Kodur CI Nagaraju and staff inspected the mishap site. Chitvel police registered a case. - Staff Reporter

13 injured in accident

KADAPA: Thirteen persons sustained injuries when a lorry dashed against an autorickshaw near Palannagaripalle bridge in Ramapuram mandal on Wednesday night.

Reddaiah and Iliyas Basha, who were severely hurt, were rushed to Ruia hospital at Tirupati. Ten other injured including Shaik Mohammed, Noorani, Ali Basha, Prakash, Easwaraiah, Niloufer, Shahida, Ayesha and Barkath were admitted to Rayachoti Government hospital. Ramapuram SI Ramakrishnudu registered a case. - Staff Reporter

Constable killed in road accident

ANANTAPUR: Venkataramana, a police constable working in the Uravakonda circle office, was killed in a road accident near P.C. Pyapili village of Vajrakarur mandal in the district on Thursday.

He was on his way to Vajrakarur Police Station on official work. The motorcycle he was riding hit a bullock-cart near P.C. Pyapili and he died on the spot. Uravakonda CI Sivabhaskar Redd, and Vajrakarur SI, K. Sainath, visited the spot. - Staff Reporter

Couple attacked

ANANTAPUR: Three unidentified persons allegedly attacked a couple of a business family at Somandepalli in the district in the wee hours of Thursday. According to the police, Ramesh and Swathi were asleep when three persons broke into their home and attacked them with knives.

The couple sustained multiple cuts in the attack. The attackers fled the scene as the neighbours started gathering outside the house.

The injured couple was rushed to a private hospital in Bangalore. - Staff Reporter

Shop burgled

KURNOOL: A garment shop at Raj Vihar centre in the city was burgled by an unidentified gang on Wednesday night. According to reports, the assailants entered the shop by opening the shutters of the rear entrance and allegedly took away Rs. 1.40 lakhs from the counter, according to a complaint lodged by the owner Kesava Reddy. - Staff Reporter

Special trains for Vizag

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway will run special trains between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam to clear extra rush. The Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam Special (No. 0748) would leave city at 9 p.m. on January 15 and reach Visakhapatnam at 11.05 a.m. the next day. In the return direction, it (No. 0747) would leave Visakhapatnam at 7.30 p.m. on January 16 and reach city at 9.40 a.m. the next day, according to a release. - Staff Reporter

on education bill

HYDERABAD: The State Teachers' Union has demanded changes in the draft of the Right to Education Bill, saying certain shortcomings in it will impede the smooth functioning of the education system.
