`No' to animal slaughter

The Akhil Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha, an organisation working towards prevention of cruelty to animals, has condemned slaughtering of animals on Bakrid day.

According to Sangha General Secretary Uttam Chand Duggad, slaughtering of the cow, sheep, camels and other animals also posed health hazards, as the waste is not disposed properly. They expressed concern over camels brought into Bangalore for slaughter.

Many camels are afflicted with trypmosomiasis, a contagious disease that can affect human beings as well.

Last year, about 263 camels were seized from in and around the city and of these, many died due to this disease.

The Sangha urged the Government to punish the offenders.
