BANGALORE: An armed man robbed a housewife of gold ornaments worth Rs. 40,000 at her house in HAL police station limits in the early hours of Friday. The police said the incident occurred at the house of Jayakumar, a moneylender, at Yemalur. Jayakumar had gone to Chintamani in Kolar district and his wife, Kala, was alone in the house. Around 1 a.m. some one knocked on the door. Thinking that her husband had returned from Chintamani, Kala opened the door. The intruder pushed her inside, threatened her with a knife and robbed her of two gold bangles, a pair of earrings and a chain, the police said. The HAL police have registered a case.
Boy dies
In a freak accident, a 14-year-old boy, Vidyashankar, died after he was struck on his head with a badminton racket in Jayanagar police station limits on Friday. Vidyashankar, son of Chandrashekhar, was playing badminton with his friends when the incident took place. He fell unconscious and was rushed to a private nursing home where he was pronounced dead in the evening. The victim was a ninth standard student of Vijaya High School in Jayanagar and a resident of Chikkamavalli. The Jayanagar police have taken up a case of accidental death.
Valuables stolen
Miscreants gained entry into a hotel room and decamped with valuables and some currency in Upparpet police station limits on Thursday. The police said Romia Paris and Alan Marshal from England had checked into a hotel in Gandhinagar on Thursday after visiting Hampi and other places. Upparpet police have registered a case.
