Republic Day arrangements

CHENNAI: The Republic Day parade for Thursday will start near the All India Radio office on Kamarajar Salai and proceed up to the Madras University campus, according to an official release. The dignitaries will witness the parade at a dais set up near the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will receive the Governor and will introduce the three service chiefs and senior police officials. The Governor will then unfurl the national flag. The celebrations will begin 8 a.m.

It was be followed by the ceremonial parade with various government departments and the armed forces displaying their pageantry floats. School and college students will also participate.

The Chief Minister will also distribute the Anna medal for Gallantry, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak award, Kottai Ameer Award for communal harmony and Mahatma Gandhi police medal for outstanding work in curtailing illicit liquor.

Flag hoisting would take place at all district collectorates, corporations and municipalities.
