BANGALORE: Award presentations are getting glitzier. With the buzz created every year by the Oscar Award nite, such functions are bound to generate much hype and curiosity worldwide. It may not be big as the Oscars, but the "Knock Out Chitra Premi Awards 2006" is sure to attract Kannada film fans on February 12 in Bangalore.

The 31st edition of the awards, instituted in the 1980s, will be given for outstanding work in cinema and television. The award winners are decided on the basis of viewers' choice.

This year, 45 categories have been instituted. Knock Out, a leading brand from SABMiller India, is associated with Kannada Chitrapremigala Okkuta. "The awards have been instituted with an objective of appreciating excellence in the Kannada film industry, as decided by the cine goers themselves," says Vijay Kumar, general secretary of the okkutta.
