Smoke hazard Sir, Autorickshaws, two-wheelers, buses and lorries on city roads are veritable furnaces in motion. They let out smoke and suffocate pedestrians. On dusty roads, these vehicles kick up thick columns of dust forcing the pedestrians to inhale it. People, at different fora, are lectured on the need to eliminate pollution but in practice, they are the ones subjected to all kinds of pollution. G.K.S. Kandasubramanian, Bangalore Layouts suffer Sir, Mayor Mumtaz Begum was right when she said that many new layouts have come up without basic infrastructure. The developers, after sale of sites, do not take much care for further development of layouts. So those who purchase and construct the houses in the layouts suffer. The City Municipal Councils (CMC) to which the layouts are attached will not be in position to develop the layouts because the revenue they get by way of taxation is meagre. It is better for the Government to merge the CMCs with Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. Sham Sunder, Bangalore No change Sir, The city's image as a sound investment destination has taken a beating. Its infrastructure is inadequate, and the Government is not pro-active. We don't see any change. Unless we have leaders with vision and a Government committed to time-bound programmes, the future is bleak. If the political bosses continue their farcical acts, grave consequences will follow. The city's growth will decline and the public will suffer. Jacob Abraham, Bangalore Commuters' plea Sir, On the assurance of the authority concerned in the BMTC, several residents of Vidyamanyanagar, Omkarnagar and Sri Raghavendra Nagar purchased monthly Pushpak bus pass for January 2006 well in advance. But to this day, Pushpak bus facility has not been provided. Now the residents prefer red board bus since the talk is that Pushpak bus is in no way better than the former. Hence the red board bus on this route should be continued. It should be ensured that the bus plies regularly throughout the month. K.R.
