Back AAI employees strike: Passengers little affected

PASSENGERS passing through Mumbai seemed little affected by the airport employees' agitation on Tuesday.

At the departure terminal in the domestic airport where the striking workers had taken position, there was a constant stream of passengers making their way into the terminal, seemingly unconscious of the demonstration by the airport employees.

Save for a few travellers, mainly foreigners, who seemed to be amused by the proceedings, most passengers went about their business quite normally.

A passenger taking a flight on a low-cost carrier to Chennai said she had not faced any problem. She added that this may be due to the fact that low-cost operations did not have to depend on many departments and as such were unlikely to be affected by such agitations.

However, the absence of housekeeping staff was evident, with the terminal building littered with refuse.

The trolley services also seemed to be in slight disarray, with a skeletal staff, comprised mainly of contract workers, wheeling the trolleys back for use by the stream of passengers entering the terminal building.
