A day for young achievers

BANGALORE: Shri D.V.V. Gujarati Shala, Majestic Circle, celebrated its annual achievers' day at Yavanika recently. The event was organised to felicitate achievers in various fields and to showcase the talent of the schoolchildren through dance, music and drama.

The programme began with a Meera bhajan by Bhavika and friends. This was followed by a presentation on the history and activities of the school.

Students of the nursery section presented a skit and danced to a Gujarati song on the joys of vacation. Students of the pre-primary section danced to Western music while the students of the primary section presented a Marathi folk dance. Girls from the high school section presented a fusion of garba and dandya raas as they danced to "dholi taro" and "rangeelo maro dholna." Former students of the school presented a fashion show.

The highlight of the cultural show was two dramas by high school students. The gathering applauded the performance of the students in "Hiranyakashipu ka murder case," a Hindi play, and "Vanake Obavva," a Kannada musical. Neema Doshi, Manjunath and Nagesh directed the plays. This was followed by the prize distribution programme.

Sadashiv Shenoy, general secretary, Press Club of Bangalore, and Satish D. Shah, Managing Director, Computer International Pvt. Ltd., who were the chief guests, gave away the prizes. Prashant Toraskar of tenth standard received the Shri Shailesh P. Shah Memorial Merit Award while toppers were given the C.M. Joshi Memorial Award.

Mr. Shah congratulated the achievers and said the key to success is hard work, time management and enjoying what one is doing. Persistence and doing things creatively leads to success, he said. Headmistress of the primary section Prema Kumari proposed a vote of thanks.

Annual day

Air Force School, Yelahanka, celebrated its annual day on Tuesday. The programme began with the presentation of the school report by principal Shobini Sukumaran. In her report, she said the school has not only excelled in academics but has also taken up many social awareness programmes. The schoolchildren participated in road safety awareness and environmental protection programmes, she added.

The cultural programme began with "Shiva Stuthi" and was followed by a dance performance titled "A day in the school" by tiny tots of the nursery section. Students of the pre-primary section gave a dance performance, which highlighted the importance of consuming vegetables.

Air Commodore G.S. Cheema, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Yelahanka, was the chief guest. He complimented the students for their performance.

Jasbir Cheema, president of the Air Force Women's Welfare Association, gave away the general proficiency prizes. Kumar Ashwani of tenth standard was adjudged the best outgoing student.
