Conference on internal audit from February 10

Internal audit is taking the centre stage of Indian business

CHENNAI: The Madras chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is organising a two-day conference on "Beyond assurance — enhancing enterprise value" beginning here on February 10. Technical chairman P.R. Loganathan, and organising committee member P.C. Anand, on Tuesday said internal audit was taking the centre stage of Indian business. With recent corporate failures and regulatory measures such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act in the United States and clause 49 of SEBI requirement, managements expected internal auditors to assist them in revitalising controls and ensuring transparency in operations.

Internal audit was emerging as a vital part of corporate governance. The role of auditors today went beyond compliance, certification and assurance, a role which would enhance enterprise values and promote good corporate governance. The conference would provide an opportunity to the participants to update their tools and techniques.

Vice-president of IIA's Madras chapter R. Vittal Raj said the institute was an international professional association with headquarters at Florida, U.S. The institute had chapters in Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. The conference would be inaugurated by Chief Vigilance Commissioner P. Shankar.
