Back Suzlon forays into Australian market

WIND turbine manufacturer Suzlon has announced its entry into the Australian market with a contract to commission a wind farm consisting of 45 units of the S88 - 2.1 MW by Suzlon Energy Australia Pty Ltd (SEA) of Melbourne, a subsidiary of Suzlon Energy A/S of Aarhus, Denmark.

According to an official communication, Suzlon received a notice to proceed under its contract with AGL (Australian Gas Light Company) for a 95-MW wind turbine capacity to be installed in rural South Australia. The wind farm is to become operational during 2007, it added.

The facility, which will be located at Hallett (220 km north of Adelaide), will be largest wind farm in Australia. Suzlon will install 45 units of its S88 - 2.1 MW wind turbine for AGL at the Hallett Wind Farm.

AGL, a top 40 listed company on the Australian stock exchange is headquartered in Sydney, and is a major retailer of natural gas and electricity for approximately three million customers throughout every State and territory in Australia.

Recently, AGL purchased Southern Hydro, which has renewable energy assets consisting of hydro power stations and an existing wind farm, with total generating capacity of 736 MW.

The contract with AGL also includes for Suzlon to provide five years maintenance and service on all wind turbines. Suzlon Energy Ltd of Pune will supply the S88 wind turbines for the AGL wind farm.
