Back Upgradation only for confirmed tickets: Railways

New Delhi , Feb. 8

Indian Railways today clarified that in its passenger upgradation scheme, the upgraded seats would be allotted to those passengers who have confirmed tickets.

The seats of the confirmed passengers in a particular train, who have been upgraded to the higher class, would be allotted to RAC/waitlisted passengers of that class, said an official release.

For instance, if 10 passengers confirmed in sleeper class have been upgraded to 3AC class, the 10 vacant seats in sleeper class would be allotted to RAC/waitlisted passengers in sleeper class.

The waitlisted passengers, who will get confirmation, would otherwise have taken refunds, it added. Earlier Indian Railways had issued statements saying that the "full fare paying waitlisted passengers" would be upgraded under the scheme. The facility is automatically provided unless any passenger specifically refuses by giving a "No" option at the time of filling the requisition form, it added.
