10 KTPS units trip

KHAMMAM: All 10 units of the Kothagudem thermal power station (KTPS) tripped because of sudden rise in the frequency levels on Thursday. The power generation in the thermal plant was affected for more than six hours. The plant authorities could put back units barring unit 4 and unit 10 into operation by late in the evening. - Staff Reporter

EAMCET forms

HYDERABAD: EAMCET-2006 application forms will be on sale at all eSeva centres in the State. The cost of the application is Rs. 250 and the last date for sale of applications is March 20. KADAPA: Kuchipudi dancer of Kadapa J.V. Sai Tejaswi has been invited to perform in the International Telugu Cultural Conference and golden jubilee of the Telugu Association of Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur from March 3 to 5. Statutory benefits

HYDERABAD: The United Front for Dalit Christian Rights on Thursday urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to recommend to the Centre extension of constitutional benefits to members of the community. The benefits include reservations and safeguards, a memorandum submitted by front leaders to Mr. Thakur said. CPI leader's plea

HYDERABAD: Ch. Venkat Reddy, CPI floor leader, has appealed to the Government to continue uninterrupted power supply to farmers in the kharif, as was done earlier, to avoid hardship to them and damage to pumpsets. TIRUMALA: A devotee of Lord Venkateswara Alagappa Chettiar on Thursday donated a golden pot to Tirumala temple. Six students injured

ADILABAD: Six students of the primary section of Sri Saraswati Sishu Mandir, belonging to Chanda-T village, were injured in a road accident on Thursday when a lorry speeding towards Nagpur rammed into the autorickshaw there were travelling. The students aged between 8 and 9 years were admitted to Government headquarters hospital here. - Staff Reporter

Nellore: State BJP secretary K. Laxman on Thursday said the issue of TRS having an alliance with his party could be considered only after the TRS severs its ties with the Congress. 2 hurt in cylinder blast

KADAPA: Two labourers sustained severe burns when an LPG cylinder exploded in a house in Sanjevaiah Nagar in Proddatur on Wednesday. Sathiki Pullaiah and his relative Ramanathula Narasamma sustained burns on their face and chest and were admitted to Proddatur Government Hospital. The roof of the house was damaged in the explosion, according to the police. - Staff Reporter

Nellore: Minister for Primary Education N. Rajyalakshmi has dedicated her ancestral house at Yellayapalem, Nellore district, to `Bapuji Vignana Kendram' scheme at a well-attended function on Thursday. Aid extended under Apathbandhu

KURNOOL: Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa on Thursday gave Rs. 50,000 under Apathbandhu scheme to the family of Sunkulamma from Moosanipalli who died due after a tent collapsed at Aluru. She died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The Minister promised an amount of Rs. 1 lakh under other Government schemes, education to children and medical treatment to her husband who suffered from hearing problem. - Staff Reporter

Seven held in double murder case

KADAPA: Seven persons accused of murdering Pydipalem MPTC member M. Ramachandra Reddy and his relative P. Ramachandra Reddy at Kasunur in Simhadripuram mandal on January 30 were arrested and produced in the Pulivendula court, according to Kondapuram circle inspector Ramana.

Komma Ramasankara Reddy, Katika Srinivasulu Reddy, Katika Vasudeva Reddy, Kona Gangadhar Reddy, Kona Ramana Reddy, Komma Sivaraghava Reddy and the Sumo driver Raghunatha Reddy, who were accused in the double murder, were arrested, he said. -Staff Reporter

Rice merchant robbed

Nellore: A rice merchant from Nalgonda district was allegedly robbed of Rs. 5 lakhs at Tada mandal of the district on Wednesday night.

According to the information available, T. Venkateswarlu, along with some others, collected dues from their regular parties at Red Hills area of Tamil Nadu and started their return journey. However, on reaching a remote place at Atakanitippa area, three miscreants stopped the vehicle and forcibly took away the money, after threatening them with a knife. - Staff Reporter

YSR to attend grama sabha

ELURU: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy will arrive at Chintalapudi in West Godavari district on Friday to take part in a gram sabha in connection with the Integrated Novel Development in Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas (INDIRAMM) programme initiated by the State Government.

According to an official press release, Dr Reddy will reach Chintalapudi at 3-15pm by helipad. He will inaugurate a sub-station built by the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) and lay the foundation stone for a road at Chintalapudi. Later, he will speak at a gram sabha at Boyagudem falling under Chintalapudi gram panchayat. - Staff Reporter

Rasta roko staged

ELURU: Activists of the CPI (ML)-New Democracy staged a rasta roko in front of the APSRTC bus stand in protest against the hike in bus fares. The movement of buses was paralysed for half an hour because of the agitation. The protesters demanded a rollback with respect to bus fares and wanted the Government to initiate regulatory measures over the operation of private buses which were causing a dent in the RTC revenues. - Staff Reporter

Ganja seized

ELURU: The city police arrested two persons at mini-bypass road here on Thursday and recovered 70 kg of ganja from them. According to the police, they were trafficking ganja from the agency of Visakhapatnam to Krishna district and Kerala for sale. - Staff Reporter
