MADURAI: For hundreds of research scholars of the Madurai Kamaraj University, it is a long wait for results even after submission of thesis. At least 500 candidates who submitted their Ph.D research work years ago have no idea whether it was accepted or rejected. Amid sharp criticism from academic circles, the varsity administration has decided to set up a monitoring committee to expedite the progress of evaluation process. Steps have been taken to convey the status of thesis to scholars. "Though the research guides clear the thesis on time, there is inordinate delay on the part of the Research Department in getting it evaluated by external experts. Lack of co-ordination and communication are the handicaps," says a senior MKU official. With the issue taking a serious proportion, the Syndicate at its recent meeting passed a resolution to put in place a mechanism where the research scholars would be able to know "at least the status of their research work."
