BANGALORE: A man allegedly murdered his 55-year-old mother-in-law at Kodamballi of Channapatna Taluk in Bangalore Rural district on Saturday. The accused, Afzal Baig, was reportedly angered by the victim, Noor Jahan's refusal to send her daughter with him.

According to the police, Afzal Baig married Noor Jahan's daughter, Reshma, 12 years ago. The couple frequently quarrelled over family issues. Miffed over one such quarrel, Reshma came to her mother's house and was staying there since a week.

Yesterday, the police said, Afzal Baig came to Noor Jahan's house and asked her to send her daughter with him. Noor Jahan refused, triggering a heated argument between the two.

Afzal Baig then took a heavy stick and hit Noor Jahan on her head and went away, the police said. Noor Jahan died later in the house.

The Akkur police, on a complaint, have taken up a case. A search is on for Afzal Baig.
