Police suspect love failure to be the cause

BANGALORE: An Indian Air Force (IAF) employee allegedly shot himself to death with a self-loading rifle (SLR) on the IAF campus in Yelahanka on Tuesday night.

The police gave his name as Corporal Pavan Kumar (27), a native of Haryana. The police said that around 8 p.m., Kumar, who was patrolling the campus, shot himself in the temple with the SLR. Around 8.15 p.m., his colleagues saw the body lying in a pool of blood near a water tank behind the administrative block. He has left a note saying "sorry mummy, daddy," the police said.

The police, who are yet to ascertain the reason for the suicide, suspect that love failure could have forced Kumar, a bachelor, to end his life on Valentine's Day. He had returned from Haryana a week ago.

Kumar's body has been kept in the Ambedkar Medical College mortuary. The Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Ends life

In another incident, a 32-year-old woman, wife of Sergeant Devendra Kumar, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to death at IAF quarters in Yelahanka on Tuesday night.

The police said that following a quarrel with her husband, Ms. Kumar, a mother of two, hanged herself with a "dupatta" from a ceiling fan in a bedroom. They were married for 12 years. The Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Youth murdered

A youth was killed and his three friends were injured when an armed gang attacked them with swords in Bannerghatta police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said that around 7.30 p.m., eight armed men barged into the house of Thimmaraya (19) at Hullahalli Gate. They allegedly attacked Thimmaraya and his three friends, Lakshmana, Ravi and Shivaji. While Thimmaraya was killed on the spot, the three others suffered injuries. They have been admitted to a hospital. Rivalry is suspected to be the motive behind the attack. Thimmaraya shifted his house from Begur about a month ago, the police said. The Bannerghatta police have registered a case.

Two men waylaid a woman and robbed her of a gold chain estimated at Rs. 20,000 at knifepoint in Peenya police station limits on Wednesday morning. The police said that around 6.30 a.m., Hemalatha, a resident of Prashanthnagar in T. Dasarahalli was walking towards a nearby milk booth. Two men stopped her, threatened her with a knife and snatched her chain. The Peenya police have registered a case.
