Bangalore: Companies should first look into their time-bound, mission-critical tasks, identify suitable employees to do those tasks and hire them, Bala Balachandran, faculty member of the Kellog School of Management said here on Thursday. Speaking at the `International HR Confluence' organised by the Department of Management Studies of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), he said it is not enough to just recruit people from the best B-schools unless their tasks have been identified. "The right people for the right tasks will help promoting your brand better," he said. While recruiting employees, the psychological profile of an individual should be carefully studied and then his or her tasks allotted. Organisations should also look at the commitment to work shown by an individual, Mr. Balachandran said. The corporate human resources strategy should "link the shop floor with the top floor" to be successful. The company should examine the humility, ethical values and focus of employees while rewarding them and continuously monitor these aspects and keep on changing their HR strategy as situations evolve, he said. N. Balakrishnan, Associate Director, IISc., said numbers, especially of people with skills, has turned out to be an asset for the country. "In this knowledge age, networking of the best brains has become necessary with a specific goal given to them," he remarked. The IISc. itself has been helped by such conferences to identify the best talent and facilitate their networking. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, who inaugurated the conference, said globalisation of the economy poses challenges for both the corporate sector and the Government in dealing with a competitive global market. The public-private partnership should be strengthened further with a give and take attitude between the Government and private enterprises, he said. "Our competence should be enhanced to sharpen our competitive edge in the world market, and we cannot leading a sheltered existence any longer. But our competence can make us equal to any advanced country," Mr. Chaturvedi said. Organisations needed inspiring leaders who can make the best use of talent to achieve excellence, he added.
