Back Vedanta Resources to set up multi-disciplinary varsity Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 17 THE UK-based Vedanta Resources Plc, the holding company of the Sterlite group, would be establishing a world class, multi-disciplinary university in India. To be established with an endowment of up to $1 billion, the university would be comparable with globally leading institutes such as Harvard, Stanford and Oxford, according to a company release. The proposed university envisages a student population of more than 1,00,000 in the long term. It would also aim to nurture all-round excellence, beyond the academic dimension. Announcing the project, Mr Anil Agarwal, Chairman of the group, said, "India has high quality educational institutes like the IITs and the IIMs which are comparable with the world's best in specific disciplines."
