THE Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani, is poised to locate its third campus in the country, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has issued a Government Order allocating 200 acres at Rs 1.5 lakh per acre at Jawaharnagar village, Shameerpet mandal in Rangareddy District for the proposed campus.

A third of BITS students are from Andhra Pradesh and the decision to locate its campus here would come in good for the State, which is witness to increased investment in IT and allied sectors.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has written a letter to Mr K.K. Birla, thanking him for choosing Hyderabad to locate their third centre, and invited him to grace the ground breaking ceremony, which is likely on Ugadi Day (March 30, 2006).

Dr Reddy expressed happiness at the development and hoped it would be a boon to the large number of students who applied for higher studies at BITS, Pilani.
