BANGALORE: Revenue Sports Board, Chennai swept the men's team honours with a tally of 54 points at the conclusion of the three-day all-India Civil Services athletics championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday evening. Last year's champion, Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board (CCSCSB), Delhi was pegged back to the second spot. In the women's section it was a tight finish as RSB, Kolkata stole the honours from Mumbai by a mere three points. While the Kolkata women had aggregated 47 points, the Snehal Khaire-led Mumbai side finished with 44 points. Snehal Khaire, however had the honour of claiming the individual honours in the women's section with her third individual gold and four in all, when she won the 200 metres in a time of 27.6seconds. The corresponding title in the men's section was bagged by Jitender Singh, also of RSB Mumbai. Jitender too won all the three middle distance events he participated in. Jitender added the 1500m gold to the 800m and 400m he claimed on the first two days. Mr. S.D. Eashan, former Asian Games bronze medallist and Arjuna awardee along with Commissioner DYSS, K.C. Ramamurthy and K. Govindaraj, president, Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) gave away the prizes. The results (winners only): Men: 200m: Parmeshwar (Bangalore) 22.1s; 1500m: Jitendra Singh (Mumbai) 4:24.0s; 400m hurdles: S. Roy Choudhary (WB) 1:04.7s; 4x100m relay: RSB, Chennai; triple jump: Sachin Gosar (Mumbai) 13.63m; hammer throw: H.J. Pandesh (Bangalore) 38.70m. Women: 200m: Snehal Khaire (Mumbai) 27.6s; high jump: Mumtaz Khatun (WB) 1.50m; 4x100m relay: West Bengal. Individual championships: Men: Jitender Singh (RSB, Mumbai) 15 pts. Women: Snehal Khaire (RSB, Mumbai) 15 pts. Team championships: Men: winner: RSB, Chennai (54 pts), runner-up: CCSCS, Delhi (46 pts). Women: winner: RSB, Kolkata (47 pts), runner-up: RSB Mumbai (44 pts).
CIL beats LRDE
Controllerate of Electronics Inspection (CIL) coasted to its third win in eight matches with an odd goal in three win over Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) in the George Hoover Cup Senior division football league here on Friday. All the goals came in the second half. Shyam Kumar put CIL ahead with a 54th minute strike and Kanickaraj consolidated the position in the 71st minute. Stalin managed to pull one back for LRDE. While CIL has 11 points (three wins, two draw and three loss) LRDE has only six points to show for its two wins and five defeats. In an A division clash earlier, Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) defeated Nationals 2-1. K. Lana scored a brace for RWF while Venkatesh scored for Nationals.
Kodava Samaja posts win
Kodava Samaja beat Indian Telephone Industries 3-1 in the last league match of the Field Marshall Cariappa Memorial hockey tournament here on Friday. ITI took the lead when Somaiah scored in the 22nd minute but Kodava Samaja dictated terms after that. C.S Poonacha scored twice when he broke through the defence in the second half. Poonacha's goals came in the 42nd and 55th minutes of the match. Cariappa rounded off the tally in the 60th minute. The semifinal league will commence on Saturday.
Srinivas, Madhu shine
Openers M.K. Srinivas (90 n.o.) and Madhu Kumar (68 n.o.) set up BEML RC's ten-wicket victory over Secretariat CC in a KSCA Group II, second division league match here on Friday. The scores: Secretariat CC 163 in 21.2 overs lost to BEML RC 168 for no loss in 10.5 overs (M.K. Srinivas 90 n.o., Madhu Kumar 68 n.o.). ADE SC 92 in 23.2 overs (S. Prakash five for 32) lost to SBI 96 for no loss in 15 overs (B.V. Bhaskar 68 n.o.). LRDE SC 142 in 37.1 overs (Gangadhar 60, T. Vinay five for 40, Pramod Kamath four for 33) lost to Corporation Bank 146 for 3 in 22.3 overs (S. Prashanth 67 n.o.). Coffee Board RC 104 in 20.1 overs (Sreekumar four for 23) lost to EPF RC 106 for 1 in 14.1 overs (Subramanyaraju 50 n.o.). BMTC SC 311 for eight in 50 overs (B.P. Murthy 70, Manjunath 70, P. Chandrashekar 52, Mohan Kumar 44) bt GTRE SC 253 in 49.1 overs (Surendra 64, A.K. Yadav 56, Lakshman four for 70).
Youth Games from June 4
The oft-postponed inaugural Youth National Games will be held here from June 4 to 11, according to the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) officials.
