Security at Ahmedabad railway station reviewed, strengthened

NEW DELHI : The Government on Tuesday said it suspected that RDX was used in Sunday's blast at the Ahmedabad railway station. The suspicion was based on the intensity of the blast, which blew off a huge portion of the platform roof and caused other damage.

"Keeping in view the intensity of the blast, it is suspected that the explosive used in the blast might have been RDX," Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said making an identical suo motu statement in both the Houses of Parliament.

He said that no arrests had been made so far. The damage caused to railway property was about Rs. 2 lakh.

The security arrangements at the station, he said, had been reviewed along with Government Railway Police (GRP) officials and joint patrolling was being done round-the-clock by the GRP and the RPF.

The Gujarat Government had been asked to further strengthen security measures to prevent such incidents, he said. Additional sniffer dogs had been pressed into service and more forces deployed.
