Elderly woman stabbed, robbed of jewellery

BANGALORE: A burkha-clad woman allegedly stabbed an elderly woman and robbed her of gold ornaments worth Rs. 50,000 in Banaswadi police station limits on Monday afternoon.

Police said that around 3.30 p.m., Arogya Mary (63) was standing in front of her house in Kammanahalli. A woman in a black burkha came to Mary's house and asked if her son, a real estate agent, was at home.

When Mary told her that her son was way, the woman asked for a glass of water. When Mary returned with a glass of water, the woman, who had by then entered the house, took out a knife from her handbag and stabbed Mary. She relieved Mary of the gold ornaments she was wearing and fled the scene, police said. The Banaswadi police have registered a case.

Suicide

A 58-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by slitting her throat in Krishna Reddy Layout in Ramamurthy Nagar police station limits on Monday night. The police gave the name of the deceased as Krishna Bai.

According to police, Krishna Bai reportedly had a fight with her husband, Laxman Rao Shinde, over a piece of property on Monday. When she was alone at home in the afternoon, she is reported to have slit her throat. Ms. Bai was found dead by her daughter-in-law, who came to the house in the night. The Ramamurthy Nagar police were investigating the case.

Suffers burns

A 26-year-old woman suffered burns after her husband allegedly set her on fire in Laggere on Monday night.

Police said Nirmala and her husband, Laxmi Narayan, were working in a garment factory. Laxmi Narayan quit his job recently and got addicted to alcohol. On Monday evening, he is stated to have demanded money from his wife for alcohol. When she denied, he is alleged to have doused his wife in kerosene and set her ablaze. Nirmala's neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her. She was admitted to a nearby private hospital.

The Rajgopal Nagar police have registered a case against Laxmi Narayan.
