`Promote India in chemicals sector'
Our Bureau
Mumbai, Feb. 24
India can become prime producer and exporter of chemicals, said Mr Jasbir Singh, Chemicals Advisor, to the Union Government. Delivering a keynote lecture at a two-day chemical meet organised by the Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetic Export Promotion Council, (Chemexcil), Mr Singh asked Indian chemicals, pharmaceutical and cosmetics producers to step-up their production and quality-standard to take up prime position in the global market. He said, "As of now, India ranked as the second largest producer of chemicals with a turnover of $28 billion and with the friendly government policies, lower capital outlay, low cost of clinical trials and technical manpower, I don't see any reason why India should not occupy prime position by 2010. We expect the turnover to be doubled at $60 billion by 2010."
