Coast Guard apprehends foreign nationals

CHENNAI: Coast Guard ships and aircraft have apprehended two boats carrying nine foreign nationals found poaching in Indian waters around the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a press release here said.

With this, the number of foreigners apprehended by the Coast Guard on charges of poaching and illegal immigration has risen to 69 in February, out of whom 61 were Myanmarese and the rest Indonesians. The first boat with five Myanmarese on board was apprehended on February 23 and the second with four Indonesians was apprehended the next day, the release added.

The boats are being brought to Port Blair for further investigation.
