Emirates too has put Bangalore on its map. The airline has said it will start eight flights a week between Dubai and Bangalore from October 29 this year. In October last year, British Airways and Air France began direct services to the city.

It will operate Airbus A330-200s and the larger Boeing 777-200s with a total weekly capacity of 2,108 seats and over 120 tonnes of cargo in each direction, a release here said.

Emirates, which started its South Indian foray in 2000, serves Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi and recently to Thiruvananthapuram.

Mr Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, said: "By the end of this year, Emirates would have launched services to three new Indian cities including Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and Bangalore and strengthened its presence in the country to eight cities served by 71 flights."
