Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: An undertrial prisoner, Anwar Pasha, 35, escaped by jumping off a moving bus at Hayathnagar on the city outskirts on Wednesday night while police were escorting him back to Cherlapally jail after attending a court case at Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district.

The three policemen who were bringing back Pasha and another prisoner Arjun Yadav told Hayathnagar police that Pasha managed to remove the handcuffs. "According to the escorts, the two prisoners were handcuffed together. But, it is not yet clear how Pasha managed to take off the handcuffs," Hayathnagar Inspector Mohammad Ghouse said on Thursday.

The APSRTC bus reached a secluded place near Hayathnagar around 8 p.m. when Pasha allegedly jumped through the bus window and disappeared into the darkness.

Action against escorts

Police higher-ups said action would be initiated against the escort police party comprising of head constable G. Laxminarayana and constables K. Laxman Rao and Sitaramulu after an inquiry.
