Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Teynampet, Vyasarpadi, MKB Nagar, Muthialpet, Anna Nagar North, Besant Nagar, T.V.Pet, Kellys, Vadapalani, Gopalapuram, Nungambakkam, Kondithope, VOC Nagar and Foreshore Estate between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Soft skills training

SISI will organise a soft skills training programme for executives on March 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. everyday. Small scale industry owners, executives and graduates aspiring for corporate jobs can apply. Technical symposium

The Society of Geoinformatics of College of Engineering, Anna University, will organise a technical symposium on March 6 and 7. NSS camp at Navalur

NSS members of Kellet Higher Secondary School, Triplicane recently participated in a camp at Navalur village. They helped in cleaning the local school and the noon meal centre. An AIDS awareness programme was also held.

Workshop on accounting standards

Seminar on power systems

Thangavelu Engineering College conducted a national seminar on recent developments in power systems. George Manoharan, former professor at IIT Madras, stressed on new systems to reduce power loss during transmission. T.J. Institute of Technology Principal K. Raveendran said that more thrust was needed on power generation through renewable resources.

Held under Goondas Act

Saidapet police have detained `Punk' Kumar, a history sheeter, under the Goondas Act. They had recently arrested him in a waylaying incident in Saidapet.

A police press note said Kumar was arrested on February 19 after he had snatched a three-sovereign gold chain from a person in Saidapet. When police tried to arrest him from a car parked on Jones Road in the same area, he had reportedly attacked them and tried to make an escape with his associates. After a chase, police also confiscated the vehicle used by Kumar.

Kumar has been chargesheeted in several murder, robbery and kidnapping cases over the past 10 years, the police press note said. He has also been detained six times previously under the Goondas Act.
