Plea for hall tickets
ONGOLE:
Some 110 students of T.R.R. Junior College of Kandukur who have been denied hall tickets for Intermediate examination for want of prescribed attendance turned up at Grievances Day on Monday and demanded that at least those with 50 per cent attendance be given hall tickets. They said they could not attend classes because their hostels were closed for two months for Dasara and Deepavali. - Special Correspondent
Tribal farmer ends life
NIZAMABAD:
A tribal farmer Jethya (35) of Gujjula tanda in Gandhari mandal reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a hut in front of his house on Sunday night. Reports reaching here said sunflower crop damage in his three-acre field due to hailstorm occurred on March 3 night prompted him to take the extreme step.

Woman hacked to death
Kakinada:
A woman, Kakarapalli Raghava, 35, was hacked to death by her husband Roopulaiah at her home in Kondapalli-Kothuru village under Peddapuram police station limits on Sunday night. She was rushed to the Government General Hospital but the doctors pronounced her brought dead. According to the police, the accused resorted to the killing suspecting her fidelity. - Correspondent
Short stories on AIDS
Srikakulam:
The district administration has brought out a book, of 18 short stories, titled Samaram (battle), with AIDS as the theme. According to District Collector A. Koteswara Rao, who conceived the idea the short story is a vehicle through which one should and could, `break the silence.' Stories had been invited and prizes offered. Seventy-five stories were received and a panel of writers selected 18 for publication. - Special Correspondent
Lightning leaves 3 dead

Plea for job cards
HYDERABAD:
The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Workers' Association has demanded immediate issue of job cards to applicants of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme to check migration of people. B. Venkat, general secretary, in a statement on Monday said though 33 lakh applications were submitted since February 2, the job cards were yet to be given. - Special Correspondent
White paper sought
HYDERABAD:
Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham has demanded a white paper on the expenditure incurred on tribal welfare last year to justify the Government's claim that it had increased the budget. R. Sriram Naik, general secretary, and K. Lakshman Rao, secretary, said the sangham was supporting the CPI(M)'s call for `Chalo Assembly' on March 9. - Special Correspondent
BCs for statute change
HYDERABAD:
Five backward classes organisations have urged the Government to introduce a constitutional amendment in the current Parliament session for providing reservations in promotions to BC employees both in State and Central Government. Fake currency recovered
NIZAMABAD:
The Yellareddy police has recovered counterfeit 100-rupee notes amounting to Rs. 29,000 from a gang. On a tip-off on Sunday, the police raided the house of one Kammari Krishna in Vellutla village and seized 200 fake notes. On interrogation he revealed the names of two others. Lambadi Lakshman was taken into custody and search was launched for the kingpin suspected to be one Sivajiraj. - Staff Reporter
