BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has instituted an annual award from 2006-07 to honour scholars who have helped promote the Kannada language, on the occasion of the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations. BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripathy said the award comes with a purse of Rs. 5,00,001. The BMTC has put Rs. 1.5 crores in a fixed deposit, and the interest will be used to present the BMTC Kannada Sahitya Prashasti. The corporation will also identify a promising young writer below the age of 30 who will be honoured with the BMTC Aralu Prashasti. The award comes with a purse of Rs. 10,001, he said.
