Indian economy needs huge investments in infrastructure: Bank president

NEW DELHI : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram is to chair the Asian Development Bank's annual meeting in May. It is being held for the first time in Hyderabad.

ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda on Friday told presspersons that issues such as Asian economic prospects, the bank's role in development and growth of member-countries, poverty, energy efficiency and infrastructure are to come up for discussion during the four-day meet from May 3.

The Indian economy, he said, may also figure in a major way as the country is in need of huge investments for development of its infrastructure. Another area of discussion, he said, would be the IT sector.The Hyderabad International Convention Centre is likely to host about 2,000-3,000 government leaders, representatives of civil society groups and the private sector.
