11 from State get Pidilite awards

There are four from Bangalore among the winners

BANGALORE: Twelve Architecture and Interior Design students, including 11 from the State (four from Bangalore), were honoured with Pidilite's Awards for Excellence here on Sunday. The awards are instituted to recognise excellence in the training and talent of students in the two related fields of architecture and interior design.

The students were judged on the basis of their final year scores, including their project work. Among the winners were Ashray, Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bangalore; Sonral S. Oswal, BLDEA's Halagatti College of Engineering, Bijapur; Sajid Ahmed Siddiqui, Indo British Academy, Hyderabad; Malik Zahiruddin, B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore; Umme Hani Wajid, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore; Mirza Parvez Baig, P.D.A. College of Engineering, Gulbarga; Radhika Balla, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal; Kandregula Raja Srinivas, Andhra University College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam; Mahavir Bhurat, B.V.B. College of Engineering, Hubli; Divya, R.V. College of Architecture, Bangalore; Harish, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, and Abeet Vijay Deval, Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum.

The Pidilite Award for Excellence, now in its second year, consists of a cash prize, a trophy and a special certificate from Pidilite Industries Limited.

This year, 12 colleges of architecture and interior design had sent applications for the awards.

"To encourage and motivate all young architecture and interior design students, we will take the competition to three more cities, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Chennai, next year," said R.K. Bajaj from the organisers.

Last year, the Pidilite's Awards had attracted students from 12 colleges in Mumbai and Pune. This year, 53 colleges from Maharastra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan had responded, an increase which led the organisers to widen the scope of the awards to recognise and reward young talent from all over the country. The function was also decentralised to cover Delhi, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

R. Sundaram, chairman and managing director of Sundaram Architects, was the chief guest at Sunday's award function. C.S. Vishwanath, Chief Engineer and Chief Executive Officer, Torsteel Research Institute, was the guest of honour.
